This survey forms part of the Eyre Peninsula Natural Resources Management Board (EPNRM) funded projects: Threatened Fauna Recovery on Eyre Peninsula (2006/2007) and Habitat Management for Species Survival (2007/2008). These projects involve the continuation of ongoing threatened fauna monitoring projects as well as initiating new investigations into Eyre Peninsula's threatened fauna. A baseline study on Sandhill Dunnart distribution on Eyre Peninsula was a key component to the 2006/2007project. This involved field surveys for the Sandhill Dunnart in Munyaroo Conservation Park and Shirrocoe, eastern Eyre Peninsula. The Munyaroo surveys aimed to contribute to a previous DEH study conducted in the area by Sue Churchill in 2000. This project also involved re-surveying previously established sites west of the Middleback Ranges (Shirrocoe Block) as outlined in recommendations following Sue Churchill's 2000/01 surveys (SHD Survey 112). Pitfall trapping (two sites, Munyaroo Conservation Park), hair tube surveys (three sites at Munyaroo Conservation Park, two sites at Munyaroo Conservation Reserve and two sites at Shirrocoe) and Elliott trapping (four sites at Shirrocoe, two sites, Munyaroo Conservation Park) were conducted on eastern Eyre Peninsula in 2007. |
