Survey/Project Name: LEISHMAN - ACACIA RESEARCH
Abstract: Invasive plants represent a large environmental, economic and social threat to Australia. Within invasive plants, a number of species are native to some areas of Australia, yet become invasive on the other side of the continent. This project compares the differences in reproductive output (such as the number of fruit and seed produced per plant) as well as other associated plant traits such as plant size in native and introduced populations across Australia. Obtaining an understanding of the differences between native and introduced populations is important because it will develop our understanding of the differences between invasive plants to their native counterparts, greatly increasing our ability to predict and manage potentially invasive introduced plants. Survey was conducted in 2009 and dataset includes 9 collections of Acacias from various locations in the Fleurieu, Yorke Peninsula and the South East.
