Vegetation: |
SRC aims to re-interpret and build on existing ecological information that can underpin nature conservation in the pastoral zone of South Australia, through the development of an information framework the Landscape Assessment Framework (LAF). This framework, when populated, aims to deliver three key pieces of knowledge: 1. An understanding of the different environmental settings that inherently underpin ecological variation 2. An understanding of the alternate states and transitions between states that occur within these different environmental settings 3. An understanding of the ecological attributes that are commonly associated with species at risk of extinction within a landscape (thereby identifying the coarse-filter (systemic) conservation issues within the landscape) This framework will be used to inform interpretation of spatial information (remotely sensed) which
may be enable measurement of states across landscapes and time. |

Methodology |
Vegetation: |
An abbreviated and adapted BS datasheet and methodology was used. The data collection was aimed at ground truth vegetation sites and notes level. Only dominant and codominant overstorey and understorey plant species were recorded to describe the vegetation community with cover abundance, association description codes (O/U/E), age class and browse data. Additional comments were also recorded on percieved community state, disturbance type/intesity comments, other stressors and condition comments. Associated physical data collected included site location details, physical setting (landform & landform pattern), Surface soil texture and comments. Some opportunistic plant records were also recorded. |
