Survey/Project Name: South East NRM VEGETATION CONDITION MONITORING
Abstract: The South East Natural Resources Management (SENRM) Board is responsible for assessing and reporting on the condition and extent of native vegetation in the region. To achieve this and to support planning for investment in NRM activities, a robust, repeatable and practical monitoring program is required. The Science Resource Centre (SRC) is developing an NRM Reporting Framework to support regionally-based monitoring programs for a range of natural resource assets to inform assessment and direction of NRM investment. Four vegetation communities have been identified as priorities for monitoring in the SE region: Eucalyptus arenacea/baxteri mid woodland Eucalyptus microcarpa grassy woodland Eucalyptus diversifolia open mallee Eucalyptus incrassata over Banksia ornata The proposed program will develop conceptual models for these four vegetation communities, develop suitable monitoring methods that will inform on the condition and extent of these communities (including the required number of sites per community and frequency of monitoring), conduct (in conjunction with SE staff) the first round of monitoring, collate and analyse the data and provide a summary report. It is anticipated that this monitoring will occur ever 5 years to produce a report card on the condition of these vegetation communities.

Start Date: 01/01/2012      End Date: 01/01/2020
Survey Type: Vegetation Only

Study Area Description: DEWNR South East region
Objectives
         Vegetation: Refer to Abstract.
Fauna: *** No fauna survey objectives recorded
Methodology
Vegetation: A cut-down version of the NCS' Bushland Condition Monitoring method will be used with the addition of several other minor indicators resulting from discussions in the conceptual model workshops. The BCM components to be used are: structural diversity A: ground cover; structural diversity B: plant life forms; species diversity; weed abundance; regeneration of native species; dieback and habitat.
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded

Data Distribution Rules: Public Dataset
Project Basis: Vegetation : Monitoring - Vegetation/Ecosystem (ie species records - usually re-visited for ongoing monitoring) NOTE:NON Std Svy methodology may have been used.
