Survey/Project Name: |
Kangaroo Island Roadside Vegetation |
Abstract: |
The eastern end of Kangaroo Island contains a very high diversity of plant species including a number of threatened plant
species. It is also the longest settled, heavily cleared and most fragmented natural landscape in the island, and as such the
remnant roadside vegetation forms vital corridors. For some plant species roadsides are the only remaining suitable habitat.
However the linear shape of remnant roadside vegetation leaves it particularly vulnerable to threats including road
maintenance activities carried out by and on behalf of the Kangaroo Island Council. This project aims to protect plants on
Willsons Rd, Elsegood Rd and Starrs Rd during the road upgrade work occurring from February May 2013. A survey of
threatened plants on the roadsides will be undertaken and appropriate signage will be established to identify areas of
significance. |
