BDBSA Project Metadata Detail

Survey/Project Number: 209          Total No. of Sites: 0
Survey/Project Name: Wetland Inventory (Mt Lofty Ranges, Kangaroo Is., Northern Agricultural Dist.)
Abstract: This project involved a rapid field survey and conservation assessment of representative wetlands in four regions: Mount Lofty Ranges (85 wetlands), Northern Agricultural District (29 wetlands), Kangaroo Island (26 wetlands) and Eyre Peninsula (27 wetlands). Surveys recorded physical, chemical and biological attributes, as well as if wetlands were nationally important by meeting ANZECC criteria. Biological data included only main vegetation associations, flora and fauna, and aquatic invertebrates. Physical parameters: Wetland reference number, Ramsar site, Land use, Land element, Wetland name, Description of site, Tenure and Geology. Biological parameters: Vegetation associations, Biological threats, Noteworthy flora and fauna and Aquatic vegetation classes. Chemical parameters: Dissolved oxygen, Conductivity, Turbidity, pH and temperature.

Start Date: 01/08/2000      End Date: 28/02/2002
Survey Type: Land Resource Inventory

Study Area Description: Represenative wetlands within four regions: Mount Lofty Ranges, Northern Agricultural Districts, Kangaroo Island and Eyre Peninsula
Objectives
Vegetation: Document vegetation associations; biological threats to vegetation; noteworthy flora and fauna; and aquatic vegetation classes for representative wetlands in four regions of South Australia.
Fauna: Document noteworthy fauna for representative wetlands in four regions of South Australia, and survey aquatic invertebrates. Occasional opportune records of birds at wetlands.
Methodology
Vegetation: Vegetation associations for the whole wetland were recorded, plus main plant species, plus any other noteworthy flora (threatened species). Aquatic Vegetation Classes: This parameter provded a snap shot of aquatic vegetation structure, vegetation classes recorded include: Algal, Aquatic Moss, Rooted Vascular, Floating leaved, Floating vascular, Unknown submergent, Unknown surface
Fauna: Noteworthy fauna recorded for each wetland. Composition: information regarding composition of important fauna that may inhabit the wetland. An indication of population sizes, breeding colonies, migration stopovers is also given where available. Aquatic fauna were surveyed using a plankton net
