Survey/Project Name: | Vegetation and Water Quality Demonstration Sites at Brown Hill Creek |
Abstract: | Demonstration site was established in 1999, along Brown Hill Creek as part of the OurPatch program of the Patawolonga Catchment Board. Weeds were cleared and native regrowth encouraged to demonstrate link between natural riparian systems and water quality. Monitoring system established belatedly as part of the Education focus. In 2002 an additional area cleared of willows (Manure Pits Site) and monitoring system devised at the time. Plant regrowth and the restoration of riparian ecosystems are the principal monitoring foci. Photopoints are also considered an additional means of showing the community the benefits of restoring riparian ecosystems. |

Objectives | |||
Vegetation: | Demonstration site (400m x 50m) established in 1999, where weeds cleared, native regrowth encouraged and native vegetation planted. Removal of willows, ash, olives using heavy machinery with later follow-up spraying. Catchment Board also supplies funds for removal of exotics and follow-up controls. Monitoring may involve only the repeat of photographs. Photopoints at the demo site only established within the last year by locating and marking sites of original photos. Photopoint sites selected for Manure Pits area as the work was undertaken. | ||
