Survey/Project Name: Monitoring Dredged Sand Deposits - Katarapko Game Reserve
Abstract: In 1979 and 1982 EWS dredged sand from the main channel of the River Murray and a percentage deposited at 4 sites within the Katarapko Game Reserve. A program was established to monitor the effects of dredged sand on the river bank flora and how flooding influences the depth and distribution of sand. 4 sites have been located off Rilli and Media Islands with 3 X 4 metre quadrats placed to measure rooted and overhanging plants, species and percentage cover on an annual basis. Dredged sand depths are measured at 2 sites immediately following a flood event and all sites are photographed. Pre/post dredge data and photos (print/slide) collected by park rangers.
