Survey/Project Name: Monitoring Program- Katarapko Island Evaporation Basin - Katarapko Game Reserve
Abstract: E&WS constructed an evaporation basin in Yabby Creek (Katarapko Game Reserve Island) and adjacent lagoons to contain fruit juice waste. The monitoring program was devised after an Environmental Impact Statement showed there had been devastating impacts to the original environment. Six photopoints have been set up to seasonally monitor semi aquatic vegetation, lignum shrubs and river red gum regeneration with monthly bird surveys to ascertain breeding populations, nesting sites etc. and cover of individual species. Environmental Impact Statement produced monitoring data and photos collected in 1982 and 1989.
