BDBSA Project Metadata Detail

Survey/Project Number: 4          Total No. of Sites: 182
Survey/Project Name: South-East Coast
Abstract: This project aims to conduct a site-based flora and fauna survey of the South East coast of South Australia, and prepare 1:50,000 vegetation maps of the entire project area. The area includes the South East Coastal Environmental Associations, and the Coorong Environmental Associations in the Murray Mallee Province. The project is part of the Biological Survey of SA programme run by the Biological Survey and Monitoring group in Department for Environment and Heritage (DEH). Survey areas defined in a DEH spatial layer managed by DEH Environmental Information Group.

Start Date: 30/10/1981      End Date: 30/03/1997
Survey Type: Vegetation and Fauna

Study Area Description: The area covers the South East Coastal Environmental Associations and the Coorong Environmental Associations in the Murray Mallee Province. The area consists of coastal dunes, plains, lagoons, mudflats and unconsolidated dunefields. The environmental regions along the SE coast of SA from the Murray mouth to the Victorian Border including the following regions: Coorong, Coolatoo, Lake George, Beachport, Nene and Port MacDonnell. 19 sites were located outside of existing study boundary. The following 1:50 000 mapsheets were added to extend boundary: Goolwa 6626-01 and Narrung 6726-04. As discussed with Lee Heard and Tony Robinson October 2000.
Objectives
Vegetation: To carry out a site - based flora and fauna survey of the SE coast and prepare 1:50,000 vegetation maps of the whole study area. Plant survey dates: 1982; 1983; 1986; 1987; 1989.
         Fauna: Fauna survey dates: 1982; 1983; 1987; 1997.
Methodology
Vegetation: Complete list of plant species with Braun/Blanquet cover abundance scores in 10 x 10m quadrat.
Fauna: An early version of Standard Biological Survey methods used - see report 2.
