Survey/Project Name: | Survey of remnant vegetation of Southern Fleurieu Peninsula |
Abstract: | This project conducted biological surveys between 1987 and 1991 to record baseline data of: 1. Remnant vegetation and swamps of the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula, south of Adelaide, South Australia; 2. Remnant vegetation north-east of Adelaide (Kersbrook-Williamstown area and Adelaide Hills). |
Start Date: | 08/01/1987 End Date: 29/07/1991 |
Survey Type: | Vegetation Only |
Study Area Description: | 1. 1987-1990. Southern Fleurieu Peninsula - High rainfall stringybark forest/heath understorey. 2. 1988 500-750 mm rainfall. Eucalyptus woodland - Eucalyptus fasciculosa / E.gonicalyx / dry heath understorey. 3. 1988-1991. Wet creekline and peat bog swamps. Rainfall 900mm. (Nangkita, Mt Compass, Parcura, Myponga etc.) Goolwa - Encounter - Torrens Vale - Yankalilla - Willunga - Milang - Monarto - Echunga - Noarlunga and Barossa . 1:50 000 mapsheets. Adelaide and Cape Jervois mapsheets were added to the existing study boundary to include sites which were located outside of defined area (Nov 2000). |
Objectives | |||
Vegetation: | Record base-line data for remnant vegetation and swamps. 1. Remnant vegetation of Southern Fleurieu Peninsula. 2. Remnant vegetation northeast of Adelaide (Kersbrook - Williamstown area and Adelaide Hills). 3. Swamps on southern Fleurieu Peninsula.
Fauna: | N/A | ||
Methodology | |||
Vegetation: | Complete list of plant species per 10m x 10m quadrat (alien and indigenous). Old forms 1987-88 used - no Braun/Blanquet codes. Vegetation structure sheet included locality sketch, site ID number, date, recorders name, AMG Easting and Northing, mapsheet number, slope, aspect and elevation. Three dominant species were recorded and relative percent cover, foliage height and depth for overstorey. Structure was recorded according to the Specht table. Trees, shrubs larger than 0.25m and shrubs smaller than 0.25m, as well as structure for each layer. Plant species names were recorded under trees, shrubs, grasses/herbs. Only unidentified species were required to be collected and pressed for later ID of herbarium vouchers.
