Survey/Project Name: Flinders Ranges NP Bushbird Monitoring
Abstract: Surveys of bushbirds have been conducted in key vegetation communities on Flinders Ranges National Park as a potential indicator of improvements in vegetation condition following control of total grazing pressure through the bounceback program. The surveys aim to develop techniques for evaluation of bushbirds as indicators of ecological recovery in response to improved habitat and food resources after integrated control of rabbits, goats and foxes. 21 sites have been established in 7 different vegetation types across Flinders Ranges National Park. Bushbirds are monitored using line transect methodology with species and numbers of birds sighted in 100 metre blocks recorded on each transect. Vegetation transects have also been established at each site however the data is included in a separate database. Monitored mostly quarterly (started from March 2000). An ongoing program that ceased for 2005 to allow for data analysis. Ellen Krahnert has updated the end date from 01 Nov 2004 to 01 Nov 2013 to allow for 2013 data. Ellen has contacted Rob Brandle to provide bird data as spreadsheet only holds plants species.
