Survey/Project Number: 443          Total No. of Sites: 9
Survey/Project Name: Coongie Lakes flora and fauna svy; Scientific Expedition Group 1988)
Abstract: Scientific Expedition Group (SEG) Coongie Lakes Survey was carried out in 1988 and was aimed at continuing the work of Julian Reid from Survey 39 and some new studies were initiated. The report includes a historical, geological and hydrological description of the area. Bird observations were not recorded with GPS, and have general descriptive locations and behavioural observations, possibly enter in Reserves. Birds were also banded at Kudriemitchie Outstation, Scats and Pollen Daubings were collected and analysed under a dissecting microscope. Mist nets were used to capture Grasswrens. Fish, insects and fresh water shrimp were caught and numbers observed. 30 permanent sites were established in the Coongie Lakes District in November 1986 by Julian Reid's survey 39. Pitfall trapping and vegetation monitoring sites revisited this survey. Vegetation data is not in this report.

Start Date: 28/05/1988      End Date: 01/12/1988
Survey Type: Vegetation and Fauna

Study Area Description: *** No study area description recorded
Objectives
Vegetation: Vegetation was sampled; quantitative data collected consists of frequency scores for each 'ground layer' species recorded along a 50 m by 0.5 m transect. The transect is divided in to 100 0.5 m by 0.5 m quadrats and the presence of all species in each quadrat recorded.
Fauna: Pitfall traps were set for mammals and reptiles. Birds observed were listed; a more extensive bird list was supplied by Julian Reid.
Methodology
Vegetation: *** No vegetation methodology recorded
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded

Data Distribution Rules: Public Dataset
Project Basis: Vegetation : Unclassified - pending reassessment.
