Survey/Project Name: Rabbit Monitoring Program - Flinders Ranges NP
Abstract: Results of vehicle based spotlight counts to monitor rabbit numbers in areas with and without rabbit control works. Programs are conducted at regular intervals on Flinders Ranges National Park in areas subject to various levels of rabbit control. 'Rabbit Treatment' area has been subject to intensive rabbit control since 2000 while limited or no rabbit control has been conducted in 'Untreated' areas. Original data includes counts from a pastoral property approximately 50 km south - west of Hawker where there was no regular fox baiting program in place (pastoral data (at Holowiliena Station) ceased due to warren ripping program). Monitoring commenced in October 1996 and was conducted five times per year in 1997 and 1998 then reduced to quarterly from 1999 - 2011 and is ongoing.
