Survey/Project Number: 55          Total No. of Sites: 9
Survey/Project Name: Angaston District Council
Abstract: This project aims to conduct a biological survey, in 1993, to provide the Angaston District Council, near Adelaide, South Australia, with baseline data on the indigenous plant species contained within blocks of remnant vegetation in the area. METHODOLOGY: 1. Data was used to provide an assessment of the significance of these blocks of remnant vegetation and the seed-source significance of the blocks for the district council; 2. This study was also used to supplement the existing data held by the former Department for Transport, Urban Planning and the Arts for this area.

Start Date: 20/10/1993      End Date: 11/11/1993
Survey Type: Vegetation Only

Study Area Description: Study area entirely within the District Council of Angaston boundaries. Complex area of 4 environmental associations. West part of District Council is the valley floor containing the floodplain of the North Pord River and adjacent footslopes. This area has only a few blocks of remnant woodland. This grades into the smaller area of crests and slopes of the Barossa Ranges which includes larger blocks of natural vegetation dominated by Eucalyptus baxteri and E.leucoxylon woodlands to the southwest of the District Council. Most of the north and east of the District Council is an undulating upland plain with higher hills and ridges more obvious to the north. This area contains blocks of degraded woodland dominated by E.leucoxylon and E.odorata mostly with grazed grassland understoreys. Strips of E.camaldulensis can be found along most rivers and creeks in the District Council. Rainfall varies from about 600mm pa in south to 400mm in north. Study area not entirely within the DC Angaston boundary
Objectives
Vegetation: To provide DC Angaston with baseline data on the indigenous plant species contained within blocks of remnant vegetation in the area. To use this data in the assessment of the significance of these blocks of remnant vegetation and the seed source significance of the blocks for the district council. To supplement the existing data held by the DTUPA for this area.
Fauna: *** No fauna survey objectives recorded
Methodology
Vegetation: Methodology as for the Environmental Database of South Australia for the Midnorth region. Further methodologies were developed to measure the scientific and the seed source significance at every site that had been surveyed for this and all other projects in the area. The results were primarily for the DC Angaston's use.
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded

Data Distribution Rules: Public Dataset
Project Basis: Vegetation : Reference dataset - records from published reference, study or misc dataset. NOTE:NON Std Svy methodology may have been used.
Vegetation : Biological Survey of South Australia - Standard Survey methodology used.
