Survey/Project Name: OLYMPIC DAM INFRASTRUCTURE CORRIDOR FAUNA SURVEY
Abstract: BHP Billiton requires a fauna survey and potential impact study assessment of the proposed infrastructure corridor between Whyalla and Olympic Dam. Two teams from Ecological Associates Pty Ltd will survey fauna at two sites along the corridor. These sites are approx. 20km north of Whyalla and approx. 50km north of Port Augusta. They have been chosen in consultation with DEH to address shortfalls in fauna surveys along the corridor. At each site 5 traplines will be established, each within an identified vegetation association. Sites will be surveyed between 9 September 2007 and 14 September 2007. At each site 1 Elliot trapline (15 traps), 1 pitfall trapline (6 pits) and 2 cage traps will be established and maintained for 4 nights. 2 sites selected each with 5 sets of traps as described. The aim is to identify terrestrial fauna potentially inhabiting the infrastructure corridor.
