Survey/Project Number: 68          Total No. of Sites: 82
Survey/Project Name: Messent Conservation Park
Abstract: This project aims to conduct a biological survey of an area of Messent Conservation Park, South East region, South Australia, around the proposed saline groundwater drain that establishes baseline data against which potential changes, due to the drain, can be monitored. REFERENCE: H.M. Owens, AC Robinson and P.J. Lang, 1995, A Biological Survey of Messent Conservation Park South Australia in December 1994, Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Start Date: 01/01/1985      End Date: 17/12/1994
Survey Type: Vegetation and Fauna

Study Area Description: Messent Conservation Park in the Northern Calcarenite Ridges and Plains Environmental Region falls almost entirely within the Messent Environmental Association. It is described as 'an extensive calcarenite dune complex overlain with sand dunes'. Many of the interdunal depressions are filled with water. The southeast corner of Messent Conservation Park.
Objectives
Vegetation: To plan and carry out a biological survey of an area of Messent Conservation Park around the proposed saline ground water drain and establish baseline data against which potential changes due to the drain can be monitored.
Fauna: *** No fauna survey objectives recorded
Methodology
Vegetation: Standard data sheets were filled out which included a description of the location and physical environment and the vegetation within the 30 x 30m area of each quadrat. All vascular plants were recorded and a herbarium specimen of each species encountered was collected. All specimens were lodged with the State Herbarium for identification or checking of field identifications, and depending on specimen quality, as many specimens as possible were incorporated into the Herbarium.
Fauna: Standard Biological Survey of SA techniques at 12 vegetation sites, see report for details.
