Survey/Project Name: South Australian Arid Lands wetland fish surveys
Abstract: This project is a collection of fish data and aquatic ecology information to identify and monitor critical refugia and assess aquatic habitats across the Far North region of South Australia. Investigation of the mechanisms that drive fish species responses to drought conditions and monitor the distribution of species during seasonal connectivity patterns. A range of different wetland types are monitored including rockholes, springs, waterholes, floodplains and lake systems. Also includes associated data collected during fish surveys, such as mammal, reptile, bird and frog. EK21/04/2016. These data could potentially be split into individual projects based on reports below. SARDI reports to SAAL: 1. Recovery of Lake Eyre Basin fishes following drought: 2008/09 fish survey report - McNeil & Schmarr 2009; 2. Climatic variability, fish and the role of refuge waterholes in the Neales River catchment: Lake Eyre Basin, South Australia; 3. McNeil, Schmarr & Rosenberger 2011; 4. Aquatic ecology assessment and analysis of the Cooper Creek, South Australia - Schmarr, Mathwin, Cheshire, McNeil 2013; 5. Assessment of endemic fish (Mogurnda clivicola) and native vegetation at springs in the northern Flinders Ranges - McNeil, White, Schmarr 2011 http://www.naturalresources.sa.gov.au/aridlands/water/managing-water-resources/other-water-resources; 6. Harald Ehmann report to SAAL Board: Flinders Ranges frogs and fishes: pilot project.Ehmann 2009 http://www.naturalresources.sa.gov.au/aridlands/water/managing-water-resources/other-water-resources; 7. Big Blythe Bore Closure: baseline survey and mapping of ecology of adjacent GAB springs, bores and waterholes. Draft report - McNeil, White, Schmarr & Mathwin; 8. Improving habitat condition and connectivity in SA's Channel Country - 2015. Non fish data for this project is in BDBSA 1106.
