Survey/Project Number: 1024          Total No. of Sites: 26
Survey/Project Name: LITTLE PENGUIN RESEARCH in the Gulf St Vincent and Encounter Bay
Abstract: This project will use a multidisciplinary approach to study population dynamics in the little penguin across six populations in South Australia. Understanding the decline of Little Penguins in the Gulf St Vincent involves a multidisciplinary approach including information on breeding success; predation; communication; and emigration. In South Australia; Little Penguin (Eudyptula minor) populations have declined by 50-100% across the past decade; with marked declines for Granite Island (report by SARDI July 2007). The decline on Granite Island has been attributed to a number of factors including mortality (terrestrial; marine); low reproductive success; poor juvenile survival; and/or emigration to other sites. Additional data may have been loaded under the Generic Permit project code 1094. DATA: 1. Genetic data will be collected to test gene flow and population genetic structure. 2. Behavioural data will be collected to understand breeding success, and on parent-offspring communication on land. 3. Survey data across years will monitor changes and identify populations at particular risk of decline.

Objectives
Vegetation: *** No vegetation survey objectives recorded
Fauna: To identify patterns of decline of the Little Penguin on Granite island and Gulf St Vincent and to gain insights into possible causes of decline using a multidisciplinary approach.
