Abstract: |
This project aims to conduct a biological resources inventory and monitoring survey of the Flinders Ranges National Park (Oraparinna Section), South Australia.
METHODOLOGY:
Permanent vegetation photopoints described in the draft management plan were re-sampled at the request of the National Parks and Wildlife Service to monitor long-term vegetation changes and to record observations of vertebrates.
Regeneration of Cypress Pine (Callitris spp) was studied to determine factors affecting variations in seed distribution around a seed source.
The results may be used as the basis for further studies in regeneration patterns of this species.
Kangaroo surveys were repeated on established transects as part of regular monitoring or kangaroos and euros in the Oraparinna and Wilpena Pound areas.
Reptile, bird and mammal trapping was carried out at the photopoints, and in other areas, during the study. Some sites were re-monitored in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2000.
NOTE:
Survey was carried out for the "Unit of Vertebrate Field Study Techniques" for the Associate Diploma in Wildlife and Park Management (South Australian College of Advanced Education)
NOTE:
Survey Site coordinates were reviewed in 2018 to address suspected uncertainty in locational accuracy. Site was projected against Google Earth imagery and compared with physical and vegetation site data. Original site survey sheets including mud maps were consulted where available. In 2019 locations were either verified or moved the minimum distance required to improve data consistency. All changes were documented within the site audit data.
