Survey/Project Number: 116          Total No. of Sites: 16
Survey/Project Name: Mt. Cone Baseline Survey
Abstract: This project aims to conduct a biological survey, in 1999 to 2000, as a baseline inventory of 455 hectares of remnant native grassland and vertebrate, and invertebrate fauna, in the Mid North region, near Adelaide, South Australia (SA). The area was proclaimed as Mokota Conservation Park in October 2000. It is the first native Hard Mat-rush (Lomandra multiflora ssp. dura) tussock grassland in a park in SA. Survey was conducted using the Standard Biological Survey of South Australia methodology. REFERENCE: Hyde M.K. (2000) Mokota Conservation Park; Burra Hills South Australia. Start Date: 01/10/1999      End Date: 03/12/2000
Survey Type: Vegetation and Fauna

Study Area Description: Native grassland in the Burra Hills, east of Mount Bryan. Quadrats placed on slopes and footslopes of ridges that rise to more than 700 metres at highest points. Two Creeklines also sampled Sections 168, 166, 165, 164 Hundred of Kingston. Boundary realigned at time of acquisition to follow fenceline, therefore small potion of section 167 included in park and grassland.
Objectives
Vegetation: A baseline Inventory of 455 hectares of native grassland acquired in 1999 by the South Australian government following many years of relatively light winter grazing, mainly by sheep. 12 standard Biological Survey of SA vegetation quadrats were surveyed and a plant species inventory for the park as a whole was done.
Fauna: A baseline inventory of the vertebrate and invertebrate fauna of remnant native grassland in the Mid North. 4 of the 12 vegetation quadrats were surveyed for fauna.
Methodology
Vegetation: Standard methodology for Agricultural region
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded
