Survey/Project Number: 1185          Total No. of Sites: 2906
Survey/Project Name: Chowilla Floodplain Tree Condition Monitoring, The Living Murray (TLM)
Abstract: The primary objective of the project was to develop a statistically robust monitoring program that will be able to detect change in tree condition at the Chowilla floodplain complex over time. These changes may occur due to future management actions, unmanaged floods or uncontrollable events (e.g. fire). Part of TLM = The Living Murray.

Start Date: 01/01/2008      End Date: 01/01/2020
Survey Type: Vegetation Only

Study Area Description: Chowilla Floodplain, Riverland, South Australia
Objectives
         Vegetation: Refer to Abstract.
Fauna: *** No fauna survey objectives recorded
Methodology
Vegetation: The assessment of tree condition was undertaken using the core parameters that have been established for assessment of tree condition at the Living Murray Icon Sites. (the TLM method). Tree condition at each sample unit has been collected by recording set parameters for thirty (30) trees with a DBH > 10cm along a transect. Each tree is given a unique identifier from 1 to 30 and semi-permanently marked. If less than 30 trees were present within the sample unit, additional trees (up to a maximum of 30) were selected outside of the sample unit. The data that has been entered into BDBSA for tree condition monitoring using the TLM method has been done in such a way that each tree along a transect has been entered as a separate site. Tree condition along a single transect at an assessment sites can be aggregated by using the first eight (5) characters of the SITE_ID. The individual trees (entered as sites) numbered 'T' one (1) to 'T' thirty (30) for each assessment site provide the last three (3) characters of the SITE_ID. See example below: BBO01T01 = Brandy Bottle transect 01 Tree 01 Sample Unit: 75 x 33 Site Dimension Type: Transect Comments: Baseline establishment for monitoring Survey Constraints: Some trees surveyed for a tree condition assessment site may be located outside of the sample unit dimension.
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded
