BDBSA Project Metadata Detail

Survey/Project Number: 133          Total No. of Sites: 357
Survey/Project Name: Photopoints - NPWSA General
Abstract: This project aims to conduct a biological survey across South Australia, designed to show long-term changes to vegetation or ecosystems, wherever formal, but general-purpose National Parks and Wildlife SA photopoints have been installed. METHODOLOGY: 1. Most of the photopoints are established in the SA Conservation Reserve system established under the National Parks and Wildlife Act, South Australia. This includes National Parks, Conservation Parks, Regional Reserves, Wilderness Protection Areas, Recreation Parks and Game Reserves. 2. The photopoints are marked by two steel posts 10 metres apart, one a camera post and one a sighting post. 3. The top of the sighting post is in the centre of the photo with a board identifying the photo. 4. Some photopoints have only been photographed on establishment, others have multiple photographs, which show changes in vegetation over time.

Start Date: 01/01/1966      End Date: 25/12/2011
Survey Type: Photopoints only

Study Area Description: Any site within South Australia but especially within NPWSA Reserves and other areas of interest to NPWSA
Objectives
Vegetation: General purpose photopoints designed to show long term change to vegetation or ecosystems
Fauna: *** No fauna survey objectives recorded
Methodology
Vegetation: A number of the sites were set up to monitor vegetation change over time, particularly following either wildfires or fuel reduction burns and these have10X1square metre vegetation quadrats running from the sighting post towards the camera post. In each quadrat plant species, no of individuals and % cover were recorded. This can be converted into a cover/abundance score for the whole 10 square metre sample area.
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded

Data Distribution Rules: Public Dataset
Project Basis: Vegetation : Photopoint - General Purpose PP's not directed at resolving specific issues. NOTE:NON Std Svy methodology may have been used.
