Survey/Project Number: 16          Total No. of Sites: 2057
Survey/Project Name: Murray Mallee
Abstract: This project aims to examine the vegetation associations systematically for flora and fauna in the Murraylands region, South Australia. Sites were chosen to represent variation across the study area, using standard Biological Survey of South Australia methods. This project is part of the Biological Survey of SA programme run by the Biological Survey and Monitoring group, Department for Environment and Heritage (DEH). Survey areas are defined in a DEH spatial layer managed by DEH Environmental Information Group. Field work was carried out during 1990/1991. Note: A review of site coordinates was undertaken to address suspected uncertainty in locational accuracy in 2019. Site was projected against Google Earth imagery and compared with all available site data including dominant species, species list, topography, mudmaps, landform description, remnant vegetation and landscape. Locations were either verified or moved the minimum distance required to improve data consistency. All changes were documented within the site audit data.

Start Date: 01/01/1988      End Date: 30/11/1991
Survey Type: Vegetation and Fauna

Study Area Description: Murray Mallee region which consists on undulating plains with minor sand rises in north, and sand plains to smaller dunes in the south. Bounded by State border, River Murray and 36* latitude. Survey north of 36* latitude, bounded by River Murray in north and west and State border in east. There are 4 sites located just outside of existing spatial boundary. They are: Patch Id 7602, 7607, 7612 and 7618.
Objectives
         Vegetation: Biological Survey and inventory.
Fauna: *** No fauna survey objectives recorded
Methodology
Vegetation: Complete list of plant species per 30 x 30m quadrat using Braun/Blanquet cover abundances. This is in Biological Survey of SA (established form this survey).
         Fauna: Standard biological survey.
