Post Fire Monitoring and Vegetation Photopoints at Coffin Bay NP |
Abstract: |
Six photopoint monitoring sites in Coffin Bay National Park were established in Feb 1991 to record the response of plant species to fires in Dec 1990. Emphasis was placed on response mechanisms for Melaleuca lanceolata. The first fire was a large burn that was thought to be first throughout the area since the 1930's. The monitoring program was carried out in Feb 1991 to assess plant species re-establishment post fire and fire response regenerative mechanisms which contribute to the national register. The photopoints include unburnt areas acting as controls and contain quadrats of various sizes to record species and gender, densities of mature and seedlings, seed storage type, additionally a grazing exclosure was established to exclude herbivores and determine grazing impact on vegetation recovery.
Additional sites and remonitoring of existing sites done by Friends of the Park during June & Oct 1991 with bird lists recorded in Jan, June & Oct 1991 and Jan 1992. |
