Acacia farnesiana SURVEY WITJIRA National Park |
Abstract: |
Aerial survey of Acacia farnesiana by R44 helicopter in June 2010. The whole park is is to be surveyed (gibber habitat only), and search efforts will focus around major creek lines. We aim to collect a broad scale spatial dataset of most of the Acacia farnesiana populations.
First complete broad-scale survey of the invasive weed Acacia Farnesiana (Mimosa bush etc). Primary purpose of the exercise
was to map and record the spatial distribution and density of the plants across Witjira, to inform and provide a baseline for onground management. Spatial accuracy is likely within 100-150m of occurance - but species prefers creek-line/run-off areas -
very predictable habit. The surveyed were guided by earlier GIS mapping work to identify and prioritse survey effort - given
the expanse of the landscape. Therefore, this dataset has probably recorded 90% of occurances - but it is not an absolute
dataset.
