Survey/Project Number: 867          Total No. of Sites: 1268
Survey/Project Name: Adelaide Mt Lofty Ranges Prescribed Burn Weed Mapping
Abstract: The Adelaide Mount Lofty Ranges (AMLR) Prescribed Burn Weed Mapping database was developed in 2010 to map weed infestations in prescribed burn sites prior to burns occurring. Mapping is focused on woody weeds which are highly fire responsive or contributing to fuel loads. The purpose of developing this database is to assess weed distribution and pre-burn vegetation condition to facilitate prioritisation of weed control. It does not attempt to record the presence or distribution of all weeds across the burn site.

Start Date: 16/07/2010      End Date: 01/01/2020
Survey Type: Vegetation Only

Study Area Description: AMLR Region
Objectives
Vegetation: Survey weed presence and density in 50m grid for prescribed burn site.
Fauna: *** No fauna survey objectives recorded
Methodology
Vegetation: Prescribed burns are overlaid with a 50m grid and as many cells as possible are surveyed. Information is recorded for targeted weeds within the cell, including infestation description (individual or few, scattered, patches, continuous), percent cover (<1, <5, 5-25, 25-50, 50-75, 75-100) and life stage (seedling, juvenile, mature, mixed, resprouting). The vegetation condition is assigned (non-functional, highly modified, moderate, good, very good, excellent) and visitation type (physically visited, visually assessed, not visited inaccessible, not visited assumed similar) is used to indicate whether the observer walked through the cell or assessed it by other means (depending on accessibility and safety). Note that not all cells will be surveyed due to inaccessibility of terrain or vegetation density, time constraints in large sites and areas which are believed to be weed free based on ramble survey data.
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded
