Survey/Project Number: 389          Total No. of Sites: 0
Survey/Project Name: Roadside Vegetation Survey, District Council of Loxton, Waikerie RV58
Abstract: The aim of the project is to address the management of remnant native vegetation on roadsides in the District Council of Loxton Waikerie; approximately 3350 kilometres of road reserve. To alleviate environmental damage and prioritise management activities for the Road Reserve. Many of the road reserves are two and three chains wide and contain significant stands of native vegetation, predominately Mallee associations. This project focuses on two and three chain roads and other roads idenified as a priority based on knowledge of the location of rated plant species and proximity to priority vegetation associations. About 800 km of roadside vegetation was surveyed in 2003/2004, using the Drive-by Survey Methodology. The condition of the vegetation and the vegetation associations were documented and mapped to identify potential revegetation sites and significant sites. The location of significant sites will be used to determine the requirements for and positioning of roadside markers as part of a Roadside Marker Sceme (RMS), which will be implemented subject to future funding.
